Amy Bender serves as the Director of Music and Organist. She directs the Chancel Choir, Charter Members Men’s Choir, Canticle Bell Choir, and plays the organ for Sanctuary Worship.
Amy grew up in Euclid, Ohio, attended Baldwin-Wallace College, and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. She began her career as a music teacher in the Mentor Public Schools in 1981 and joined the music staff of Mentor UMC the following year. In 1994 she earned a Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counseling from John Carroll University.

Tammy Palermo grew up nearby in Troy Township and graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a vocal emphasis from our own Otterbein College in Westerville Ohio. Her college summers were spent at Camp Asbury in Hiram. After graduation, Tammy taught music at Groveport Madison Middle School South and Riverside High School. After her involvement with MOPS (Mothers Of Preschoolers), the Library Committee, and the Commission on Education, she felt God tugging at her to apply and interview for the Director of Children & Family Ministries in October 2007. Tammy believed that she would be a stay at home mom once her children were born, but clearly God had other plans for her! She is married to Michael Palermo. Together they have two children, Eliana and Evan. Tammy is excited to be a part of the ministry at Mentor UMC!

Are you a passionate visionary who can support the continued evolution of contemporary worship that seeks to welcome and engage those who currently participate as well as engage those that we have not yet been able to connect with?
